Educational Objectives
Describe the bidirectional relationship between insomnia and mood
disorders and recognize persistent insomnia as a residual symptom
associated with poorer clinical outcomes, including relapse, suicidality,
and treatment resistant depression.
Apply evidence-based approaches to identify and assess clinically
significant insomnia in patients with mood disorders using validated
screening tools and clinical evaluation.
Individualize treatment strategies for insomnia in patients with mood
disorders by integrating behavioral interventions and established and
emerging pharmacologic therapies based on residual symptom burden,
prior treatment response, and patient preferences.
