Description of CME Course
Protection of patients’ privacy has always been a priority for psychoanalytic practitioners. Although prioritized and guaranteed, privacy has not been examined in light of the multiple theoretical perspectives psychoanalysts and psychotherapists use in their work with patients. The right to privacy and its importance has simply been assumed in need of protection and preservation. The rise in teletherapies since COVID has forced us out into the sociocultural, political world dominated by the internet and social media, whose platforms are now incorporated into our psychotherapeutic practices. But the business models for digital platforms are constructed to generate and mine data for profit. This session is designed to articulate the intrapsychic and interpersonal functions of privacy to raise questions and awareness of the clinical outcomes of privacy impingements.
