Description of CME Course

Between 40% and 65% of surgeons are suffering from at least one symptom of burnout, according to a recent national study. Evidence indicates that burned-out surgeons are more likely to experience negative personal consequences such as addictions, sleep disorders, cardiovascular disease, and divorce, and that some are at risk for suicide. Burnout is also linked with increasing medical errors and reduced quality of patient care and safety. This activity gives specific strategies surgeons can consider implementing to reduce current symptoms and future risk of burnout.
