Description of CME Course

The advent of the mpox virus outbreak, which has been declared a public health emergency in the United States, has profoundly affected health care professionals and the patients they serve, while still in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. This is particularly true in clinics serving the LGBTQ+ population, with gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (MSM) and racial and ethnic minority groups currently disproportionately represented among mpox cases, though anyone can contract the virus. In this episode, we will explore the infection control challenges faced by health care professionals at Howard Brown Health, an agency that provides affirming care for the LGBTQ+ community in Chicago, as they assessed and treated patients with suspected and confirmed cases of mpox.

*Note: This episode was recorded before the WHO and CDC changed monkeypox terminology to mpox, so you will hear it referred to as both monkeypox and MPV.
