Description of CME Course

Preterm birth (PTB) is one of the most challenging issues in perinatal medicine today. The preterm birth rate in the United States is one of the worst among all developed countries and it is on the rise. Failing to monitor a pregnant patient’s risk for PTB is risky and costly. The adverse effects of PTB can be quite devastating to the newborn, Obstetrician, and the health system. More than one-third of deaths during the first year of life are attributed to preterm birth-related causes. Infants who survive are at increased risk for disabilities, repeated hospitalizations, and long-term health problems. This module is one of a 3-part series focusing on the PTB prevention strategies that hospitals and primary providers need to use when caring for the pregnant population.
