Description of CME Course
Cases of postpartum hemorrhage are traumatic events. Every PPH case will affect the patient, providers, hospital staff, and families in some way. Emotions often run high, and provider confidence can falter long after the event, mainly when severe morbidity or mortality results. A lack of self-assurance complicates critical thinking and performance while increasing risk exposure. Poor decision-making can lead to delays or failures in recognition and mismanagement. These clinical judgment issues are the root cause of 79% of malpractice cases closed with an indemnity payment and 55% of cases without compensation. This is the twelfth of 14 modules within our PPH series. This course focuses on the benefits of debriefing providers and patients after PPH events. Risk reduction strategies and recommendations to decrease PPH-related malpractice allegations are highlighted.
