Description of CME Course

PPH is one of the most common diagnoses resulting in medical malpractice allegations, accounting for 15% of maternal injury claims. Failure or delay in typing, cross-matching, ordering, and administering blood products is a common error during PPH treatment. To limit risk exposure and improve outcomes, professional organizations recommend replacing blood components sooner rather than later in unstable patients with uncontrollable bleeding. This is the tenth of 14 modules within our PPH series. This course focuses on to learn who, why, when, and how to manage a patient requiring blood component replacement therapy in a way that mitigates risk. Risk reduction strategies and recommendations to decrease PPH-related malpractice allegations are highlighted.
