Description of CME Course

The maternal death rate is on the rise around the world, and postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) plays a major factor. In the US, PPH accounts for 11% of maternal deaths and is the leading cause of death on the day of birth. PPH is one of the most common diagnoses resulting in medical malpractice allegations, accounting for 15% of maternal injury claims. Lack of readiness and recognition, as well as delayed management has led to unsuccessful reduction in PPH related deaths. ACOG revised the definition of significant blood loss during pregnancy and recommendations to improve outcomes are available. Applying an organized, team-focused approach to PPH helps limit risks to practitioners and facilities who serve the pregnant population. This is seventh of 14 modules within our PPH series. This course focuses on various methods to diagnosis PPH. Risk reduction strategies and recommendations to decrease PPH-related malpractice allegations are highlighted.
