Description of CME Course

Process improvement in healthcare delivery has not been part of medical training until recently. This has been felt to be an essential skill to move forward with improving health care outcomes, reduction in errors, improvement in efficiencies and reducing costs. The national boards of most medical specialties now require a demonstration of knowledge in quality improvement to maintain physician certification. The quality academy has developed the course Mayo Clinic Application of Quality Improvement: Tools and Methods – Silver Level to teach/disseminate key quality tools and a systematic approach to help health care practitioners assess and improve the systems they work in. This will include a discussion of the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control) framework, data analysis, and the use of “tools” such as value stream map and control chart to review the data and performance.
