Description of CME Course
Medical professional liability (MPL) lawsuits are not always avoidable and healthcare professionals are frequently surprised by a claim or lawsuit. However, there are strategies healthcare professionals can implement to reduce the risk of claims and lawsuits. In cases where they are unavoidable, these same strategies can improve the chance of successfully defending the suit. In this two-part activity, part 1 focuses on the closed claims data related to the specialty of family medicine, reviews some of the more prevalent causes of MPL claims and lawsuits, and discusses the most prevalent allegation. Part 2 continues the discussion with additional allegations and factors associated with the claims in family medicine.
