Description of CME Course
Prolonged periods of uninterpretable or absent fetal heart rate data (FHR) or uterine contraction (UC) data on the EFM strip can lead to legal complications. Failing to maintain a continuous EFM strip can imply that the perinatal team was inattentive to the mother, fetus, or both. Chances are greater that the provider and the hospital will lose or have to settle any resultant litigation when EFM data is lacking. This course discusses how failing to monitor the FHR/UC data violates the standard of care for the reasonably prudent obstetrical caregiver and offers solutions to prevent it.
