Educational Objectives
1. Identify opportunities for early, preventative, and community?based behavioral health interventions that reduce unnecessary crisis responses, hospitalization, and justice system involvement for adults with IDD.
2. Adapt screening assessments, and diagnostic practices to more accurately evaluate individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities who experience co-occurring disorders spectrum.
3. Apply existing clinical skills and therapeutic principles in flexible, accessible ways; understand the range of evidence-based practices available for treating individuals with IDD and co-occurring disorders.
4. Recognize the wide spectrum of intellectual and developmental disabilities and how differences in communication, cognition, and behavior influence presentation, treatment planning, and outcomes.
5. Understand the relationship between substance use, mental health, and IDD.
6. Uphold the human right of individuals with IDD to equitable, dignified, and effective behavioral health care, consistent with professional ethics and standards of practice.
