Description of CME Course

This activity discusses ways systems factors (flaws or weaknesses in organizational systems of care) can sabotage correct diagnoses. Think about a primary care practice with no specific policy for checking if patients actually go to recommended tests and consults, which leads to a physician’s not knowing that a patient missed a diagnostic mammogram that was ordered, which gives rise to a late diagnosis of breast cancer with less chance for the patient’s survival. This is an example of how systems factors can impede diagnosis.
