Description of CME Course

Our research has revealed a professional community that is committed, but not always adequately prepared, to meet the increased demands of an aging patient population. Many professionals are challenged to stay abreast of the rapid advances in the understanding and evidence related to preventing, detecting, and diagnosing AD, resulting in significant gaps in knowledge, skills, attitudes, and expertise. This inadequacy undermines clinicians’ ability to effectively apply the latest guidelines for preserving brain health, initiate impactful dialogues with patients, assess and manage modifiable risk factors for cognitive decline, monitor at-risk patients over time through cognitive testing, and intervene appropriately when adverse cognitive changes are identified.

This activity will improve strategies and skills for incorporating risk assessment into routine clinical care and will assist diplomates with developing a personalized
cognitive health plan for patients with or at risk for cognitive decline.

1. Incorporate multidomain risk assessment into routine clinical care to identify and characterize modifiable and nonmodifiable risk factors for cognitive decline
2. Work with members of the care team to develop a personalized cognitive health plan for patients with or at risk for cognitive decline
3. Differentiate mild cognitive impairment (MCI) from normal aging using appropriate cognitive assessment tools
4. Integrate blood-based biomarker testing into the diagnostic evaluation of patients with suspected early symptomatic AD
