Description of CME Course

The responsibility for coping with burnout has mainly been placed on the individual physician. Now, it is better understood that institutional strategies are needed to address the burnout situation. Researchers are finding that healthcare systems changes must accompany—and take precedence over—personal resilience strategies before we will see a drop in the incidence of physician burnout. This activity looks at institutional drivers of burnout and describes organizational initiatives that advance physician well-being. In addition, it offers individual steps physicians can take—in conjunction with organizational action—to foster their own well-being.
