Educational Objectives
1. To increase provider capacity and skills for the management of sexual health a. Participants will broaden their understanding of sexual health across in diverse cultures and genders and confidently obtain a sexual health history. They will identify their own biases and use non-stigmatizing language and avoid unnecessary re-traumatization of patients. b. Participants will correctly employ diagnostic testing (e.g. use multi-site testing for Gonorrhea). c. Participants will identify areas of opportunity within their practice that could lead to sexual health being consistently managed in their primary care practice.
2. To create agents of change for a more equitable health care system that includes sexual health. a. Participants will be able to articulate the interrelationship of their patients’ sexual and overall health and to act as agents of change in their communities (e.g. be able to articulate how the increase in congenital syphilis rates in Oregon reflect the overall health of communities). b. Participants will identify approaches to identify opportunities to increase access to sexual health care within their health system (e.g. self-collection of STI testing outside of appointments). They will be exposed to case studies of successful health system change and advocacy. c. Participants will feel comfortable filling knowledge gaps by understanding resources available to them such as patient education materials and provider education resources. d. Participants will appropriately connect to other elements of the health care system (e.g. specialty clinics, public health agencies, state agencies, community-based organizations) to advance the care of their patients. They will understand the roles of each of those elements (e.g. how provider disease reporting interfaces with public health).
3. To increase disease specific medical knowledge about sexually transmitted infections rising in Oregon. a. Participants will accurately diagnose Monkeypox and differentiate it from conditions with similar presentations (e.g. syphilis).
